Zanele Mbeki Primary School
Based on the continuous increase in enrolment coupled with growing age of the young learners in the pre-primary school, Zanele Mbeki Primary School upgraded from a kindergarten to pre-primary and primary school. The school used DBN finance to build extra classrooms to cater for the increasing enrolment.
Socio-economic significance
The primary school and day care centre cater for children living in Grysblock, Katutura, and its surroundings. Parents and guardians are working class or self employed, and may not have time to care for their children full time, at home.
The school and day care centre enables them to work with the confidence that their children are well cared for. In this manner it also contributes to the economic wellbeing of families and the community of Grysblok.
Early education has been identified as critical to the future of the Namibian economy.
Employment
The school is wholly owned by a previously disadvantaged Namibian woman. It employs 25 individuals of whom 18 are female and 7 are male. Management consists of five females and one male. All staff are permanently employed.
Transfer of skills
The school spends approximately 5 days developing its employees, at a cost of approximately N$10,000 per employee.
